Hermle HS flex hybrid merges pallet and workpiece handling in one system

At Hermle's Open House in Gosheim, a major innovation was introduced: the HS flex hybrid system. This solution combines the advantages of pallet and workpiece handling in a single flexible platform, offering substantial benefits for manufacturers seeking maximum automation.

The HS flex hybrid builds on the proven success of Hermle's HS flex and HS flex heavy systems. Designed to handle workpieces up to 450 kg, the hybrid version allows both pallet handling and the automated processing of clamped components. This versatility makes it highly suitable for applications involving high part variation and smaller batch sizes. The system supports six different Hermle machine models and can be configured with one or two storage modules depending on capacity needs. Key technical features include media transfer via the machine table, a lockable setup station, and a switchable gripper for both pallets and clamped parts. This ensures the system can easily transition between production methods. The storage module has also been adapted to accommodate both Hermle pallets and 'Schraubstücke' (clamped parts), increasing flexibility in handling tasks.

Modular design for maximum adaptability

The modular concept allows for easy customization of tables, grippers, and storage components. New gripper options include a robust unit for large loads and a precise unit for smaller clamped workpieces. These features extend the system’s usability across diverse production environments. The Hermle Automation Control System (HACS) maintains efficient order management, even when handling highly variable workflows. Designed with scalability in mind, the HS flex hybrid offers up to five times the capacity of previous generations, without compromising user-friendliness or serviceability. Its intuitive software interface supports quick configuration changes and provides real-time insight into system status and maintenance requirements. The result is a future-proof automation solution that ensures high productivity with minimal downtime.

The HS flex hybrid attracted significant attention during Hermle’s May Open House and will also be showcased at EMO Hannover 2025. There, Hermle aims to demonstrate how hybrid automation sets new benchmarks in productivity and flexibility for the machining industry.
