At AMB 2026, INDEX will present new turn-mill centres, multi-spindle machines and automation systems in Hall 4. The exhibits focus on complete machining, automated handling and flexible machine configurations. These solutions address different production requirements. New models include the compact G160 turn-mill centre and the TRAUB MS12-4 multi-spindle machine. The MS12-4 is designed for parts from 3 to 13 mm in diameter.
The G160 extends the INDEX G-series below the G200.2 platform. It is based on the same platform. INDEX will also present the technically comparable TRAUB TNX160. The main difference is the CNC system. The G160 uses Siemens Sinumerik ONE. The TNX160 has the Mitsubishi-based TRAUB TX8i-s control. Alongside these turn-mill centres, INDEX will show its G220 with an iXcenter L robot cell. A separate version of the automation system will be installed on an MS24-6 multi-spindle turning machine. The exhibition will also include the TRAUB TNL12 lean entry-level sliding/fixed headstock machine. An INDEX C200 production turning machine with Fanuc control will complete the display.
Turn-mill centres extend complete machining options
The G160 and TNX160 support machining at the main and counter spindles. Their motorised milling spindles have Y and B axes. This enables turning and milling operations in one machine setup. Direct-drive main and counter spindles support dynamic machining cycles. Two spindle variants are available. The 42 mm bar stock clearance version targets smaller parts produced at high speed. A 65 mm version provides higher torque. Therefore, users can select spindle capacity according to component geometry and machining requirements. Tool capacity is also important for complete machining. The machines have a 60-position tool magazine. A 90-tool version is available as an option. A double gripper transfers tools into the milling spindle. Parts requiring several turning, drilling and milling operations can therefore remain in one machine. This can reduce transfers between separate machines.
The G220 at the stand will demonstrate another automation approach. Its iXcenter L robot cell will be shown in an entry-level configuration with a safety fence. The system can automatically change tools in the machine turret. This requires VDI tool mounting with a straight or angled HSK base holder. The robot extends automated handling beyond workpiece loading and unloading. It can also manage turret tooling without manual intervention.

Multi-spindle concept moves away from the spindle drum
The new TRAUB MS12-4 uses a different arrangement for machining small turned parts. It does not rely on a conventional spindle drum or sequential machining. Instead, the machine uses a new kinematic concept. Its layout follows that of the TRAUB TNL12 sliding headstock turning machine. Four sets of key units are arranged vertically. The machine combines four main spindles, turrets, counter spindles and flexible tool carriers called FlexWT. This arrangement allows four workpieces to be machined simultaneously. For small-component manufacturers, it is intended to increase output within the machine footprint. At the same time, it retains independent machining units for parallel processes.
INDEX states that the MS12-4 can be specified in several configurations. The full version includes four of each core machining unit. Alternative equipment variants are also available. The modular structure allows the machine to match individual workpiece requirements. As a result, applications do not need to use the full configuration. The TNL12 lean takes a different approach to investment and equipment levels. This sliding/fixed headstock machine has one turret and one back-working unit. Its live guide bushing can be adjusted, but it is not programmable. Optional equipment remains available when additional functions are required.
Automation for handling and closed-loop production
On the MS24-6 multi-spindle turning machine, INDEX will show an iXcenter developed for this machine class. The robot cell is mounted directly on the machine. It is used for unloading and handling workpieces. Its modular design also allows adaptation for additional tasks. With the appropriate options, the system can support closed-loop manufacturing. In practice, this is intended to enable the production of insert parts with less operator involvement. It also supports stable process quality. INDEX states that the iXcenter can be retrofitted to many standard multi-spindle turning machines. Therefore, the concept applies to existing installations as well as new machines.
The booth will also include the iXworld digital offering. INDEX specialists will demonstrate iX4.0 applications on the company’s IoT platform. The platform is intended to provide visibility across the machining process chain. Other demonstrations will cover iXshop for spare parts and tools. The programme will also include iXservices for after-sales support.
