EMO Extends Its Stay in Hanover
The VDW Executive Board has decided that EMO, the leading global trade fair for production technology, will continue to be held in Hanover. The decision follows commitments by Lower Saxon policymakers to further develop the exhibition site and aligns with planning coordinated with Cecimo and Ucimu through 2031. During the most recent EMO, industry visitors discussed rumors that the trade fair might relocate to the exhibition halls in Düsseldorf.
At its autumn meeting, the VDW Executive Board confirmed Hanover as the ongoing location for EMO. General Commissioner Carl Martin Welcker emphasized that the decision provides a viable path forward for the event. The commitment by policymakers to continuously upgrade both structural and technical aspects of the exhibition grounds was a central factor in the evaluation. According to Welcker, these developments will ensure that the site meets modern requirements for an international industry platform. The maintained partnership with Deutsche Messe supports the further evolution of the EMO concept and strengthens planning reliability for exhibitors and visitors. With this decision, the organizers aim to secure the event’s role as a leading showcase for innovations in production technology.
Coordinated planning with European partners
The location decision forms part of a broader coordination effort within the European manufacturing technology community. In consultation with Cecimo, owner of the EMO brand, and Ucimu, organizer of the Milan editions, the VDW agreed on the event cycle until 2031. Under this arrangement, EMO will take place in Milan in 2027, return to Hanover in 2029, and move back to Milan in 2031. This schedule provides clarity for stakeholders across the sector and ensures a balanced distribution between the two established host cities. Welcker noted that after 2031 the event will revert to its established rotation pattern, supporting predictability in future planning. The coordinated approach reflects the continued importance of collaboration between the German and Italian associations in maintaining EMO’s global standing.
Prospects for exhibitors and visitors
Maintaining Hanover as a recurring location offers stability for companies that rely on EMO as a central platform for presenting advancements in production technology. The planned modernization of the exhibition infrastructure supports future development and enables the fair to adapt to evolving industry requirements. The partnership between VDW and Deutsche Messe remains a core element in concept development, ensuring that the event continues to provide suitable conditions for international participation. With its defined schedule through 2031, EMO can build on its established reputation while aligning with structural and technological demands.
