From 15 to 19 September, AMB 2026 will bring together machine tools, automation, tooling, software and production expertise at Messe Stuttgart. The exhibition will occupy all ten halls. It will give machining companies an opportunity to compare technologies that address pressure on capacity, delivery times, labour availability and costs. AMB has developed into a major meeting place for the machining industry and a significant counterpart to EMO. Its focus extends beyond individual machines and product launches. The exhibition will show how equipment, automation, process monitoring and digital systems can work together in production.
Under the motto “Where metal comes alive”, the event will present technologies that are ready for implementation. It will also feature developments expected to shape machining in the coming years. The technology-based hall layout is designed to help visitors identify relevant suppliers and topics efficiently. This is important for companies assessing investments. Comparing solutions side by side can provide a clearer view of their impact on machine utilisation, process stability, changeover times and downtime.
Technology areas reflect production challenges
The themes at AMB 2026 closely follow the issues facing machining companies. Automation, digitalisation, process monitoring and quality assurance will have a prominent place across the exhibition. These areas are increasingly interconnected in production environments. Companies must increase output from existing capacity while maintaining reliable processes. Visitors will find solutions ranging from cobots and broader automation concepts to tool management, measurement systems and production planning software. Rather than treating these as separate technology categories, the exhibition places them within the wider context of production efficiency.
Shorter changeover times, better machine utilisation and reduced unplanned downtime depend on effective integration. These systems must work together in daily operations. Circularity and artificial intelligence will receive additional attention in 2026. The circularity theme includes material use, carbide recycling, longer tool life and more efficient processes. Artificial intelligence will be linked to applications in process monitoring, maintenance, quality control and software. These tools can support faster decision-making by operators. The emphasis is therefore on applications connected directly to machining practice, rather than on artificial intelligence as a stand-alone topic.

Start-ups bring new approaches to the show floor
Alongside established machine tool builders, tool suppliers and software companies, AMB will again provide space for young enterprises. The Start Up Area and Young Innovators will present developments from metalworking and related technology fields. This gives visitors access to ideas that may sit outside established supplier networks. A central part of the programme is the start-up pitch session on Thursday, 17 September. Between 14:15 and 16:00 at the AMB Stage, participating companies will each have five minutes to present their technology or business model. The format gives visitors a compact way to assess a broad range of emerging concepts during the exhibition.
The 2024 edition showed the type of application that can emerge from this area. Examples included simulation software for optimising machining tools and an automated finishing process. These developments underline the role young companies can play in manufacturing. This is particularly relevant where software, automation and process knowledge increasingly overlap.

Forum programme adds technical depth
AMB will complement its exhibition floor with a programme of presentations and discussions. Every show day begins at 08:45 with the AMB Morning Minutes. The sessions will provide a short overview of daily highlights, interviews and key topics. The programme will also include the official opening, the AMB Award and expert discussions on aerospace machining and artificial intelligence in production. For visitors seeking more detailed technical information, the VDMA Technology Forum will run from 15 to 18 September in Hall 1, Stand B50. Its programme covers quality assurance, machining difficult materials, cost-efficient production processes, raw materials, sustainability, digitalisation, artificial intelligence and automation.
This combination of machinery, supporting technologies and technical discussion reflects the changing nature of machining investment. Companies are not only selecting a machine or tool but also considering its role within a wider production system.
