EMCO UNIVERSALTURN 50 sets a new standard in universal turning

EMCO introduces the UNIVERSALTURN 50, a high-performance turning center designed for efficient complete machining of bar and chuck workpieces. The machine marks the first model in a new generation aimed at greater accuracy, dynamic performance and flexibility. With advanced drive systems and an integrated Y-axis, it targets higher productivity while maintaining strict machining accuracy.

The EMCO UNIVERSALTURN 50 is built as a compact yet powerful turning center with a bar capacity of 51 mm. The concept builds on the architecture of EMCO’s MAXXTURN series, integrating future-focused enhancements for process stability and versatility. The machine’s highly dynamic axes enable short cycle times, while its rigid build ensures accurate simultaneous turning and milling of complex geometries. The long-stroke Y-axis is fully integrated into the machine structure, offering stable turning performance and expanded milling capability. With multiple configuration options, the platform provides a scalable solution for manufacturers seeking reliable and economical production of complex parts.

Application range and automation

Depending on the selected configuration, the machine covers applications across hydraulics, pneumatics, mechanical engineering, automotive components, medical technology and fastening systems. It is also suitable for producing sliding and rolling bearing parts, as well as components used in defense applications where high accuracy and process reliability are essential. Automation options include short bar loaders for compact, economical operation and 3-metre systems enabling longer autonomy. Finished parts are removed via EMCO’s parts catcher, while optional gantry automation supports precise loading and unloading of preformed blanks. All automation movements are CNC-controlled, ensuring consistent handling and repeatable positioning across a wide range of part types.

Core machine features and configurations

The UNIVERSALTURN 50 is built on a vibration-damping cast-iron base that provides rigidity, thermal stability and repeat accuracy. Various spindle configurations are offered. The UT50 M and MY versions feature a belt-driven main spindle with high torque, while the UT50 SMY integrates direct-drive motors on both main and counter spindle for wider speed ranges and superior concentricity.

Tool turret options include VDI30 with driven tools or a BMT45P system for high milling content. Depending on the model, speeds up to 12,000 rpm and drive powers up to 8,8 kW are available. A direct-measuring C-axis with 0.0001° resolution is supplied as standard. Additional systems such as absolute measuring scales, programmable clamping devices, integrated lubrication and centralized cooling contribute to long-term stability and repeatable performance.

Control systems and digital integration

Initially, the UNIVERSALTURN 50 is available with the SINUMERIK ONE control system. This platform supports dialogue-based programming and connection to digital production environments. From 2026, a FANUC 0i-F Plus version will also be offered. The UT50 SMY variant additionally integrates EMCONNECT, EMCO’s digital assistant for workflow optimization and data access directly at the machine.

With these capabilities, the UNIVERSALTURN 50 positions itself as a forward-looking solution for manufacturers seeking higher productivity, stable processes and precise machining in a compact universal turning center.
